This service falls into two parts:
1) Level 2 Smoking Cessation Advice: To provide this you will need one or more members of staff trained to Level 2. You do not have to be a Pharmacist to access this training. Indeed the remuneration model is not based on pharmacist involement. We see this as something interesting and developmental for a Pharmacy Assistant or Technician to become involved with.
Training is regularly provided by Cignificant, NHS Norfolk's stop smoking service. They can be contacted on: 0800 0854113
Once trained, the Level 2 Advisor may recruit patients directly (though they must be subsequently registered with Smoke Free Norfolk).
Payment is made for achieving a registered "4-week quit". The payment for this has recently been increased (details available from Smoke Free Norfolk or the LPC)
A smaller fee is paid for clients not quitting at 4 weeks.
2) NRT Supply via Voucher Direct from Pharmacies: This is a recent innovation, which allows Level 2 Advisors to issue vouchers for NRT supply on the NHS. This means that a pharmacy with a Level 2 advisor can offer a "one-stop-shop" for smoking cessation. This makes it very convenient for clients. Details of the voucher scheme can be obtained from John Reuben at the PCT:
