NMS and Targetted MURs

FIRST STEP: you must be accredited for the standard MUR service to offer either new service. If you are not, then follow this link for all the information you will need:

http://www.psnc.org.uk/pages/mur.html

NEXT STEP FOR NMS: Complete the CPPE open learning module on the NMS. A copy of this will be sent to all pharmacists in early September. http://www.cppe.ac.uk/learning/Details.asp?TemplateID=NMS-P-01&Format=P&ID=20&EventID=41108

THEN: Complete a NMS Self-Assessment Form. This can be found, along with loads more information by following this link:

http://www.psnc.org.uk/pages/nms.html

NEXT STEP: Data recording for the NMS will be much easier if you use the Pharmabase system. All independent Contractors should have been sent Logon details. Multiple pharmacies' Logon details have been sent to your Head Offices. Check with you local line manager on the use of Pharmabase. Any queries or Logon problems follow this link for information and contact details:

NEXT STEP: Talk to your local GP Practices. They will not thank you if the first they hear is a load of new paperwork landing on their desk! Briefings for GPs are downloadable from the NMS link above. Discuss how they would like the paperwork handled. Remember- these services fit with the QIPP agenda and could save GPs time and reduce waste, which is increasingly important to the new Clinical Commissioning Groups.

You also need to inform the PCT that you will be providing the service. The form can be faxed or posted to Ian Small. Form can be downloaded here

SO What's Norfolk LPC doing to help?

1) We are in the process of increasing awareness of the services with the new Clinical Commissioning Groups. Ideally some referral agreements could be arranged. The fledgeling nature of some CCGs means that getting this on their agenda is not easy, but we will continue to push for joint working on this.

2) We'll shortly be sending out a Newsletter explaining the process and what you need to do in hard-copy.

3) We will be laminating copies of the key paperwork and distributing these to all pharmacies.

4) The early accreditation work needs to come from you. We are discussing holding local evening events with our local CPPE Tutor, and will let you know what we arrange.

5) We will review the learning from early adopters and bring you some "best practice" information and share key learning points. At that point we will consider holding some local evening events to share information and deal with early issues.
