RESIDENTS and visitors to a Dartmoor town are celebrating the opening of a much-needed new pharmacy.
Experienced pharmacist David Fulton has relocated the Moreton Pharmacy in Moretonhampstead to give the community a better service and greater choice for their medical needs.
Local MP Mel Stride took time to meet Mr Fulton and his team at the shop in New Street and congratulated them on the investment in the future of the town.
"It is great to see local investment in this important area of healthcare," said Mel. "David and his team's efforts are to be welcomed by all here and I would personally like to say it is very heartening to hear the story of this new business and such a positive outlook for the future."
Mel heard of the pressures and concerns faced by a small Pharmacy in a rural location and pledged to do what he can in Westminster to help. Key issues include the way that Pharmacists are reimbursed by the health service for drugs dispensed and the promotion of the key role that Pharmacies have in promoting early diagnosis and screening.
Also present at the meeting with Mel was David Bearman, who is the Chair of the Devon Local Pharmacy Committee. Mr Bearman thanked Mel for his support.
Mr Fulton added: "This new pharmacy provides a great facility for the community and for future generations. It has excellent ease of access, is bright and welcoming and has the benefit of a very useful consultation room."
Mel has made it a key priority to support growing businesses in his constituency, which has a wealth of small companies serving a mainly rural population.
