Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw visited Luxton's Pharmacy in Exeter on Friday afternoon and participated in the alcohol screening project.
The Devon DAAT has recently recruited 10 pharmacies to pilot a brief intervention service to evaluate whether community pharmacy is a suitable venue for this type of service. Ben also took time to listen to some of the concerns that the LPC have; in particular the coalition government's drive towards more GP commissioning; the review of the Pharmacy White Paper; and ongoing worries about local decisions on the promotion of branded generics switches being made by prescribers and the potential impact on community pharmacy budgets and ultimately service levels. Mr Bradshaw also showed his support for community pharmacy by signing the Community Pharmacy Charter. The local newspapers and radio station highlighted the visit in the weekend press.
