Good to Great - the NHS Plan 2010-2015

The strategy can be downloaded by clicking here.

The strategy, ‘NHS 2010-2015: from good to great. Preventative, people-centred, productive,' explains the need to accelerate the pace of NHS reform to make the system more productive and hasten improvements in quality of care - protecting patients, supporting staff, shifting resources to the frontline and slashing back office waste and bureaucracy.

At last there is formal recognition of the position pharmacy has in supporting the public health and prevention agenda as the document also states:

"Pharmacies are a crucial local partner, and are well-positioned to provide personalised health advice within local communities. Guidance on how pharmacy staff can be enabled to become health champions and health trainers will be published".

The Devon LPC has already been involved in local discussions about strengthening the health promotion campaigns by supporting the development of health promotion champions in community pharmacy.  Let's hope the guidance referred to in the strategy doesn't take too long to materialise.
