STOP Smoking Service
From 1st April 2010, NHS STOP Smoking Services in Coventry are being provided under a new Tariff Scheme, as required by the West Midlands Strategic Health Authority. WMSHA require providers to go through a qualifying process which allows organisations to provide services across the whole of WMSHA.
In Coventry a number of organisations have succesfully qualified including:
Others are qualified elsewhere in the SHA, but are not known to be providing services in the Coventry area.
These changes were discussed at length by the LPC, where it was acknowledged that independents and small pharmacy groups might not anticipate supporting a sufficiently large enough volume of quit attempts to merit the efforts required to become an approved provider organisation. Indeed the LPC was concerned that small-volume pharmacy providers might actually terminate provision of STOP Smoking Services. Thus the LPC resolved to develop sub-contractual arrangements with any approved provider organisations that would be pleased to have pharmacy contractors sub-contracted to them.
Thus community pharmacy businesses in Coventry can either go through the qualification process to become an approved provider organisation or be sub-contracted to an already qualified provider organisation.
Currently, only Coventry CHS have so far made arrangements via the LPC to sub-contract service delivery through community pharmacists. (See Training, Paperwork, pages within this section of the website)
NRT Voucher Scheme
Please note that the NRT Voucher Scheme, (which supports the STOP Smoking Service) is still commissioned by the PCT (not CCHS) and is subject to a separate NRT Enhanced Service agreement.
