PH Campaigns

Pre-Conception Care (13th September to 15th November 2010)

The objective of this campaign is to maximise the health of prospective parents... to ensure that they are at the peak of their health potential at the point of conception and during organ development of the foetus.

Mary White, Public Health Practitioner, NHS Coventry, gave a very informative presentation on the health issues to the Coventry Pharmacy Development Group on evening of Thursday 2nd September.

In essence, pharmacy teams are asked to be vigilant for opportunities to make the required interventions, such as the purchase of Folic Acid products or Pregnancy Testing Kits. A helpful cribsheet was distributed to illustrate the sort of scenarios where interventions could be made and how they could be handled.

An evaluation form was also provided for pharmacy teams to record the outcomes of such interventions and to facilitate audit. These forms should be returned to Laurence Tressler at Christchurch House as soom as possible after 15th November.

Promotional materials were also provided including a poster, 'credit-card' reminders, and shelf-wobblers to display beside Folic Acid & Pregnancy testing kits.

For further information, pharmacy teams should contact Mary White, Public Health Practitioner, NHS Coventry, 02476 246177 or 0776 850 6345
